Self-care is so important and yet it is one of the things we tend to not even think about. Listening to your body and what your body needs it important for your mental health and well-being. Not judging ourselves is very important. How often do you judge yourself?
How often do you make “me time”?
There are days we let anxiety and depression get to us, it knocks us on your butts. We try to pull ourselves up from your boot straps and act like everything is fine. Its not, we are just trying to convince ourselves we are. This is when we need to take take for ourselves.
If you can, try to make “me time” a regular habit. Whether it’s turning your phone off for a few hours or giving yourself a nice bubble bath, going for a hike, sitting enjoying the sun. Do something you love.
I began to take care of myself better, scheduling in time alone, for exercise, and for fun. I love taking my dogs for a run.
Self-Care Isn’t a One-Time Deal
Make self-care a daily habit, you can always fit in something to give yourself a little love and attention. You have to respect your own body, mind and soul. Its very important to do that daily.
Its easy to forget ourselves in this busy world we live in, out job might be overwhelming, chasing kids all day, take care of the house, and taking care of loved ones that are sick. Taking care of our loved ones can really take a toll on us and we have to take care of ourselves to be able to take care of them.
So actually taking time to eat lunch, exercise, and hang out with friends? You have to know that you deserve to take time for yourself, that your are just as important as everyone else and deserve it.
Do you feel like you deserve time to yourself or do you feel like your slacking?
Self care can reduce the effects of stress and actually make you more productive. Stress can affect our body, and make us feel worn out, overwhelmed and wanting to just throw in the towel. You feel its too much and you get to a breaking point.
Make Time to Eat Healthy and Exercise
Exercise is important to keep your body running smoothly, we were built to exercise and yet most of us don’t because we hate to or don’t have the time. I actually like to exercise just never find the time.
Do you make the time to exercise?
Try to make it a daily routine. Find a gym that’s close to work, or along your commute, or find a gym that is open 24 hours a day. I love being able to go when I want, the problem is staying motivated to do it. My doctor says “if you are waiting to get motivated it isn’t going to happen, you have to make it happen. Just get it done.”
Eating healthy can be a challenge at times, fast food has made people in the world overweight. There are healthy choices if you do eat out a lot, you just have to choose wisely. But the best thing is to cook a healthy meal at home. Cook a few meals in a day so they are prepared and when you get home you just have to reheat. Low carbs is the big thing right now and seems to work for a lot of people. Keto diet is what everyone is raving about. Taking care of yourself is Key!!
Practice Emotional Health
There are millions of people dealing with some kind of stress in their lives. Anxiety, depression are the two I hear most about. Our lives our full of stress and do we take care of ourselves so we don’t let it get to us. Most the time the answer is NO.
When you’re feeling any kind of intense emotion—stress or anger, for instance—it helps to take a quick break to process it. What exactly are you feeling, and why? Journal is so helpful to help you process how you are feeling and why. I think keeping journal is very important and it takes only a few minutes to do it. I have kept one for years.
People do not like to admit they see a therapist but having someone to talk to that is neutral and doesn’t judge can be so helpful. Sometimes seeing things in different eyes can make things seem or rational. If your emotional pain is especially difficult to manage, you might consider finding a good therapist or counselor.
Getting in touch with our feelings is foreign to some of you, I know, but that’s sort of the point of emotional health. You want to take time to deal with your feelings so you can control them and get back to work. Controlling them means acknowledging and understanding them.
